Life balance is of the utmost importance

Play Therapy

Play therapy helps people express themselves through play, which can be a natural way for children to communicate their experiences and knowledge. Play therapists use a variety of techniques, including role-playing, arts and crafts, and guided imagery. Play Therapy relies on the idea that "play is a child's language and toys are their words." (quote by Dr. Garry Landreth)

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)

When a disturbing event occurs, it can get locked in the brain with the images, sounds, thoughts, feelings, and body sensations. EMDR seems to stimulate the information and allows the brain to process the experience. That may be what is happening in REM or dream sleep - the eye movements (tones, tactile) may help to process the material. It is your own brain that will be doing the healing and you are the one in control.

After an EMDR treatment session, the brain may continue processing throughout the following hours and days. You may notice new insights, thoughts, memories, physical sensations, or dreams. Melissa may ask you to briefly jot down whatever you notice and it will be discussed at the next counseling session.

Sandtray Therapy

Sandtray Therapy is a form of expressive therapy where individuals use a tray filled with sand and small figurines to create scenes that represent their inner world, thoughts, and feelings, allowing them to explore and express themselves non-verbally, often revealing unconscious aspects of their life through symbolic imagery, without needing to articulate their experiences fully with words; it's particularly helpful for individuals who might struggle with verbal communication or have experienced trauma.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a type of psychotherapy that helps people manage their mental and emotional health by changing their thoughts and behaviors.

Reality Therapy

Reality therapy is a form of counseling that emphasizes personal responsibility and choice, viewing behaviors as deliberate actions individuals choose to fulfill their needs, rather than symptoms of a mental health condition; it focuses on helping people understand how their current choices are impacting their lives and encouraging them to make better choices to achieve their goals, with the primary focus on the "here and now" rather than past experiences.

Expressive Arts Therapy

Expressive arts therapy is a therapeutic approach that uses a variety of art forms to help people heal and grow emotionally. It's a holistic intervention that can help people access their emotions and express themselves in ways that might be difficult with words alone. Expressive arts therapy can include drawing, painting, music, writing, movement/dance, sculpting, sound, improvisation, drama, and poetry.
